Intracept / Basivertebral Nerve Ablation

Take the First Step Toward Lasting Relief from Lower Back Pain.

If you’ve been dealing with chronic lower back pain that hasn’t improved with conservative care, CSI provides a groundbreaking option: the Intracept® Procedure. This minimally invasive, outpatient treatment targets the basivertebral nerve, the source of vertebrogenic back pain, to offer lasting relief without implants or spinal fusion. Our spine specialists are proud to deliver this advanced solution to help you restore mobility, ease pain, and return to living life on your own terms.
Understanding Vertebrogenic Pain
Chronic low back pain can stem from various sources, but vertebrogenic pain specifically arises from the vertebral endplates, the area where the disc meets the vertebra. When these endplates become damaged, they stimulate the basivertebral nerve, which sends pain signals to the brain. If you’ve had ongoing lower back pain that hasn’t responded to physical therapy, injections, or medications, vertebrogenic pain may be the underlying reason.

What is the Intracept® Procedure?
The Intracept® Procedure is a minimally invasive and advanced treatment for chronic lower back pain that directly targets the basivertebral nerve, which is a primary generator of vertebrogenic pain. Performed under anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, it typically takes about an hour and does not require an overnight hospital stay.
Unlike spinal fusion or the use of implants, Intracept maintains the natural structure of the spine while disrupting pain signals at their source. The procedure is cleared by the FDA, supported by multiple clinical studies, and shown to be safe, effective, and long lasting. For eligible patients, it provides meaningful and lasting relief without the need for hardware or major surgery.
Is Intracept® Right for You?
The Intracept® Procedure may be appropriate if you’ve had chronic low back pain for six months or more, tried conservative treatments without relief, and your MRI shows Modic changes, a sign of inflammation at the vertebral endplates.
Patients who benefit often report pain in the center of the lower back that worsens with activity, sitting, bending, or lifting.
As with any procedure, risks should be discussed with your healthcare provider to determine if Intracept is the right fit for you.
